More babies!!!

Back in October I adopted six baby Syrian hamsters from an ad on craigslist, I knew they were coming from a bad situation and wanted to help them the best I could and adopt them out to good homes once they were healthy. There ended up being five males and a single female, and three of them are long haired and three short. I ended up adopting them out and two of them went to the same home. The one female and one of the males went to a home together, to be separated into large bin cages where I can also see them often.

The female, Cookie, is a crazy individual. She is not happy in her cage, and tries to escape no matter how many toys you give her, how often you hold her, or how much space she has. One morning their owner woke up to the two of them in the males, Coconut's, cage. We didn't think much about it but got them sorted out and back to the usual.

Around a week and a half later Cookie started developing little jellybeans on her sides, babies. Sure enough, on two and a half weeks since getting in Coconut's cage, she had an entire nest full of babies. She took really good care of them, even though they annoyed her, and at the two week old work she kicked them out of the nest. A few of them were still forcing her to nurse them at that point, but the others were becoming independent and nesting on their own. We ended up counting ELEVEN babies!

They are currently around four weeks old, and have been separated into their own bins. They have so much energy and so much spaz to them. It is so much fun to see them running around their bins enjoying their space.

Cookie has enjoyed having them out of her cage... She is glad to have her space and her nest to herself.

Wishing the next month or so we will be getting the little guys ready to go to some good homes!
