Cheddars Vet Visit #2

Today, January 25, 2021, Cheddar is going back into the vet. We have been giving her Enrofloxacin twice daily to treat an infection surrounding her GI tract, and we will see what happens from there.  We brought her in and got news we were not wanting. the infection had worsened and was going to soon impact her organ function. Our vet made it very clear to us that our options were surgery, euthanasia, or letting her live with the infection on pain meds. we looked into surgery, but it didn't seem worth it when we weren't sure at all what they would find when they opened her up. We thought about letting her live as long as she could as is, but our vet let it be known that a few weeks seemed like all that could have been made with the infection as bad as it was.  we ended up opting for euthanasia. We brought her in the following day, January 26, 2021, at 8:30AM and they gave her an injection in her abdomen. After a few minutes she had passed, I held her the whole time and she was

More babies!!!

Back in October I adopted six baby Syrian hamsters from an ad on craigslist, I knew they were coming from a bad situation and wanted to help them the best I could and adopt them out to good homes once they were healthy. There ended up being five males and a single female, and three of them are long haired and three short. I ended up adopting them out and two of them went to the same home.  The one female and one of the males went to a home together, to be separated into large bin cages where I can also see them often.  The female, Cookie, is a crazy individual. She is not happy in her cage, and tries to escape no matter how many toys you give her, how often you hold her, or how much space she has. One morning their owner woke up to the two of them in the males, Coconut's, cage. We didn't think much about it but got them sorted out and back to the usual.  Around a week and a half later Cookie started developing little jellybeans on her sides, babies. Sure enough, on two and a

Cheddars Vet Trip

I recently welcomed five rats to the rescue to keep as personal pets, opening up the possibility of fostering others and eventually having some rats available for adoption. I took in two from an ad on Craigslist who was fostering them after rescuing them from a neglect situation. They are bonded females, an albino dumbo ear, and a black dumbo ear, both of them are ten months old and are very healthy, (minus the albino one having sight issues).  I also took three in from someone selling them as feeder after their pet rat from the pet store had babies. They are female augoti dumbo ears, and one of them has some rex in her! again, all very healthy, at least we thought they were...  After having them for around a month and a half we noticed that Cheddar, an augoti dumbo ear, developed huge lumps on her abdomen within 48 hours. Immediately we feared she was pregnant, and checked everyone she lives with confirming they are in fact all females. We weren't sure what to do next, either they
